Electron Microscopist

McCrone Associates, Inc., an innovative, modern, analytical and research laboratory, seeks highly motivated and curious research scientists with backgrounds in electron microscopy for the consulting staff in our electron optics group. The group is primarily responsible for scanning electron microscopy, x-ray microanalysis, electron microprobe analysis, and transmission electron microscopy. The consulting staff works autonomously with clients from a variety of industries helping them solve their materials and contamination problems through microscopy and microanalysis.

McCrone Associates currently needs additional staff with expertise and experience primarily in scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy-dispersive x-ray spectrometry (EDS). The applicant must have experience actually operating SEM-EDS equipment for imaging, qualitative, and quantitative analysis. Knowledge of wavelength dispersive x-ray spectrometry (WDS), electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) and other characterization techniques such as TEM, Raman, SIMS, XRD, or XPS, is a plus.

The ideal candidate will have a Master’s degree in chemistry, physics, geology, metallurgy, forensic science, or materials science with five years of relevant laboratory experience. McCrone is looking for innovative scientists who have a special interest in non-routine problem solving, working as part of a team of light and electron microscopists and with clients from a variety of industries. All our electron microscopists manage projects, consult with clients, analyze samples and interpret data, and report findings to clients. Experience with word processing, spreadsheets and databases is mandatory. Compensation is commensurate with education, experience and responsibilities.
