Polarized Light Microscopy Workshop, Lewis University Campus

Course Details

During this 1.5-day, hands-on Polarized Light Microscopy (PLM) workshop, you’ll use one of our Olympus BX-51P microscopes to learn the fundamentals of particle characterization. Beginning with assembly and alignment of the instrument, you’ll be guided through particle identification techniques including particle size, morphology, refractive index determinations, basic crystallography, the use of compensators, and more.

By the end of the workshop, you’ll know:

  • The principles, theory, and practice of polarized light microscopy (PLM)
  • Methods and techniques for particle identification and materials characterization using a polarized light microscope

Your instructor will also offer an overview of published reference literature.
