Courses Taught Using Unique Blended Learning Format

Westmont, IL (September 13, 2012)Hooke College of Applied Sciences, the premier microscopy training center, announced its 2013 schedule of microscopy courses. The 2013 course schedule is now available online at www.hookecollege.com/schedule.

Hooke College offers microscopy training courses related to the following topics: particle identification, light microscopy, scanning and transmission electron microscopy, fiber identification, infrared microscopy, Raman microspectroscopy, gunshot residue identification, and sample preparation. Microscopy training courses are held year-round in the classroom laboratories at the Hooke College learning center in Westmont, Illinois.

Many of the training courses offered by Hooke College in 2013 are taught using their unique blended learning format known as web-classroom-web training. The web-classroom-web approach combines online modules to be completed before class convenes with hands-on instructor led classroom laboratory time at Hooke College, followed by post-course online workshops designed to support and solidify the classroom learning. This training method was created to maximize the amount of hands-on instrument time available to every student who attends a Hooke College course.

A recent student from the Maui Police Crime Laboratory said, “The course was fantastic, and when I worked on the unknowns for the post course section, I learned about what I need (supplies and equipment) to fully utilize the techniques required for the analysis.”

Charles Zona, vice president and dean, said, “Student feedback regarding the blended learning model at Hooke College of Applied Sciences has been overwhelmingly positive. Students comment that the post-course activities helped to reinforce the concepts and practices learned during the course.”

Hooke College boasts a staff of instructors who are all subject matter experts in their field and practicing scientists. The instructors deliver a hands-on learning experience that provides each student with the knowledge, critical thinking, and practical techniques necessary to quickly put their new skills to use on the job.
