McCrone Associates Expands Light Microscopy Team

Westmont, IL (August 26, 2014) – McCrone Associates, Inc. (MA) is pleased to announce that Thomas G. Van Howe, Jr. will join the light microscopy group as a research microscopist. Tom has served as Quality Manager at MA for over seven years, overseeing the quality management system and helping to maintain corporate compliance with regulatory and accreditation agencies. He also serves as chemical hygiene and safety officer for The McCrone Group, a role he will continue to fulfill as he transitions to the research microscopist position.

Prior to joining The McCrone Group, Tom served for five years as an analyst in the Wet Chemistry and Microbiology departments of an environmental laboratory and nine years as the Technical Manager for an ISO 17025 accredited industrial hygiene and asbestos laboratory. He has a bachelor’s degree in biology from Millikin University, Decatur, IL.

“We are excited to have Tom moving back to the bench where he began his career in science,” said David Wiley, president and COO of McCrone Associates. “Like all new technical staff, Tom will mentor with a senior scientist as he gains experience as a project leader.”

Tom is also an instructor at Hooke College of Applied Sciences, where he is lead instructor of the Modern Polarized Light Microscopy (PLM) and White-Powder Unknowns courses and co-instructor of the Pharmaceutical Materials and Contaminants course.
