The THMSG600 is based on the design of the highly succesful THMS600 stage and has been modified specifically for geological applications. This precision built hotstage can be found in a majority of Fluid Inclusion labs all over the world.

By minimizing the number and thickness of the windows in the stage, the light path has been optimized and allows inclusions as small as 1.0µm to be viewed. To correctly identify trapped inclusions it is imperative that the temperature is accurate to within 0.1°C. The stage has been designed in such a way as to achieve this high degree of accuracy and stability. The aperture in the block is 1.3mm, which is the optimum size for minimizing thermal gradients while not affecting the field of view. The block itself is highly polished to ensure perfect contact with the sample carrier while the sample holders themselves have been precision engineered to hold the beveled disc firmly on the block. Because the carrier holds the sample, any movement in the block during heating and cooling does not affect the sample position. Even using a 100x lens the object will stay in the field of view.

To allow high magnification lenses to be used, a special lid and cooling jacket has been designed for use with the THMSG 600. The objective is placed inside the cooling jacket and the jacket is then inserted into the special lid, O rings ensure that the contact between the lid and jacket remains airtight. The sample arrangement for geology samples is designed to give extremely accurate and reproducible results and consists of either a 7mm or 10mm spring-loaded sample holder. A beveled quartz disc of a corresponding diameter is fitted under the taper of the holder. The spring action of the sample holder ensures that the quartz disc is held in close contact with the silver block.
