Advanced Instrumentation in the Classroom

McCrone Microscopes & Accessories technical sales representatives are passionate about microscopy and materials analyses. They value the opportunity to increase STEM literacy to K-12 students, families, and educators. Our team, in cooperation with Hooke College of Applied Sciences, regularly delivers on-campus and off-campus programs that increase science, technology, engineering, and mathematics literacy. Each learning session provides an opportunity for unsurpassed hands-on instrument time on the market’s most advanced scientific instrumentation.

Over the past few months McCrone Microscopes & Accessories has visited Still Middle School in Aurora, IL, William Fremd High School in Palatine, IL, and Kennedy Middle School in Naperville, IL. During these instructional sessions, we demonstrated a variety of light and scanning electron microscopes, including the JEOL Benchtop SEM—the NeoScope II. Students and educators are able to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of the physics of optics, magnification, as well as materials and chemical analysis. Using the NeoScope II students view samples magnified up to 60,000X and collect elemental data via energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. These new learning opportunities for K-12 students and teachers are unparalled and were certainly not available in the past! Students are able to explore the world of forensic science by analyzing crime scene samples, such as hairs, fibers, and gunshot residue, right in the classroom!

At The McCrone Group, our goal is to educate and excite future generations about the power of science. We will be happy to visit with you and your students to show you why we are regarded as “the Premier Microscopy Resource!” Please contact Jeff McGinn (630-887-7100) today to arrange for a STEM day in your classroom!
