Stereomicroscopy

Stereomicroscopy is the primary tool for preliminary examination of samples and preparation for more detailed instrumental analyses. Operating at magnifications between about 5X and 135X, the stereomicroscope provides a three-dimensional visual perspective with exceptional depth of field and can be configured for oblique top light, transmitted light, polarized light, coaxial illumination or fluorescence. Photomicrography and size measurement capabilities are also available.

In addition to providing preliminary identification of many samples, extensive manipulation and preparation of unknown particles and materials can be carried out using the stereomicroscope, including isolating foreign material from a product matrix, cutting, cross-sectioning, solubility testing, color testing, micro-extraction, and mounting for micro-FTIR, micro-Raman and scanning electron microscopy.
