A new x-ray diffractometer that will help UIC students and faculty do clean energy research was donated to Ernesto Indacochea, professor of civil and material engineering, by McCrone Associates Inc.

Indacochea and other faculty members will use the Siemens D500 theta-theta x-ray diffractometer, along with an existing device, for teaching and research. The instruments help identify materials and crystal structures.

“This will help ease backups in the labs, especially during semesters when the x-ray diffraction course is offered,” Indacochea says.
