Through a unique collaboration, Hooke College of Applied Sciences, a member of The McCrone Group, offers in-person microscopy training for materials analysis at Lewis University in Romeoville, IL.

During these hybrid courses in light microscopy and electron microscopy, you’ll complete an online microscopy course at your own pace, followed by a two-day hands-on learning session at Lewis University taught by Tom Schaefer, an adjunct professor from Hooke College of Applied Sciences. These high-quality hybrid courses are an affordable and flexible way to learn new skills, and are suited for both industry professionals and college students.

Polarized Light Microscopy Course

After completing our online Polarized Light Microscopy course, you’ll attend a workshop at Lewis University on March 13-14, where you’ll have access to your own polarized light microscope as an instructor leads you through the analysis of known and unknown samples. The course concludes with a final particle-based project. You are also encouraged to bring your own samples to characterize during the course. The $2000 course fee includes the $795 online module and the 2-day hands-on workshop at Lewis University.

Scanning Electron Microscopy Course

You’ll complete our online Scanning Electron Microscopy course before attending a workshop at Lewis University on March 11-12, where you’ll use two tabletop SEMs and analyze instructor-led examples of known and unknown samples. You will also complete a particle-based final project. You are encouraged to bring your own samples to characterize during the course. The $2000 course fee includes the $795 online module and the 2-day hands-on workshop at Lewis University.
